A strong fit for breeding rooms

Fry and shrimp face less concentrated suction, while grazing animals use the biofilm on the foam. A mature spare can be moved to a quarantine tank, making biological redundancy visible and inexpensive.

Limitations are equally practical: fine polishing is modest, bubbles may be noisy, and one unit may not distribute flow through a long, densely furnished aquarium.

Maintain air and foam separately

Place the air pump above water level or fit a correctly oriented check valve. Use a drip loop and inspect tubing, diaphragm and diffuser when bubble output falls.

Squeeze the sponge in removed aquarium water when restriction becomes apparent. Remove accumulated solids without trying to sterilise the colonised surface.
